The Story Itself

The Supporting Characters' Role

Going to be a shorter blog this time around, I swear I'm not trying to slack off because I'm busy, there's just very little to talk about because the story is very straightforward, as enjoyable as it was. If I tried to force myself to discuss more things, I'd be spoiling the entire story.

As the event's title suggests, Akari and Yori swapped bodies! Too bad for them, they have people they are going to meet soon. Yori, her offline game meeting and Akari, her festival.

The entire point of Akari's and Yori's characters is how they're very different despite being twins. Both personality wise and...physically. At one point of the story, Yori comments how fighting in Akari's body feels heavier, kek.

heavy

This difference is the story's main focus, and the story presents it by showing how other characters react when the twins are in each other's bodies. You'd definitely raise an eyebrow if Yori suddenly became extroverted and lewd and Akari became an epic gamer.

Yori and Her Offline meeting

Or should I say, Akari's Offline meeting. She's meeting up with Nanaka and Rin, and a bunch of other NPC gamers.

Obviously, Nanaka is surprised when Yori suddenly goes yahooo. Nanaka comments Yori is suddenly acting like she's a whole different person, but brushes it off as if Yori is just adopting a new persona. Meanwhile Rin is fully convinced that this really is a whole different person.

different person

A character defining moment for Rin, she's really perceptive despite being a slob. Akari comments on this.

surudoi

An offline meeting shouldn't be a big deal of our extroverted Akari, right? Wrong. She's a fucking normie so she knows jack shit about games. The NPC dude asked her about reviewing a game and how to beat a certain boss, and you bet Akari fumbled really badly.

ganbattaww

Eventually, KSKN bail her out, shoves a deck of card into her hands, and tells her to show off her card games skill. That's the one game she knows how to play since used to play with Yori when they're little. Akari kicks ass, and Nanaka and Rin assume KSKSN just did his KSKN magic.

angel? more like monster

Speaking of card games, I've been thinking about going into Shadowverse locals since there's an actual Shadowverse scene in Indonesia and I'm now decent enough (tryhard enough) to reach Grandmaster 3. But that would require me talking to...people! I like playing games more than talking about it, and if you think I ramble a lot about Priconne anyway, that's because I'm way too obsessed with this IP. Anyway, moving on before I get sidetracked.

Akari and Her Festival

Or should I say, Yori's festival. She's meeting up with Suzuna and Yuki.

God, Yori is literally me here. She's bad with new people and with crowds and had to fake excitement at first to get things rolling. The difference is that it actually works for her, when I do it, it's usually very obvious that I don't want to be there...

y-yay...

After watching some stage performance, the group gets hungry and decided to get some food. Suzuna treats Yori the fes' signature curry, which has a giant portion. Looking at Yori, you might think she needs the extra calories anyway (I don't), but right now she's in Akari's body...

Meeting new people, drowning in crowds and stuffing herself with curry all in one day puts Yori into a spin. Suzuna notices and asks if Yori is doing okay. Obviously, Yori lies but KSKN bail him out. Yuki randomly walks into the scene and KSKN asks to borrow his mirror. KSKN tells Yori to fix herself up and that's when she notices that it's not Yori she's seeing on the mirror, but Akari. Yori realizes she can't ruin this for Akari and asks herself, what would Akari do in this situation? She thinks she'd know, because she's the one closest to Akari.

what would she do?

Super cute. It did take a mirror for her to realize, but I like that she thinks she's close enough with Akari to know what she'd do. It's natural to assume they'd be close because they're twins, but how can the audience be sure if it's not shown? After all, this is the same game where two siblings fighting is part of the focus of an arc. Haven't read Arc 2, but I assume there was a conflict between Sheffy and Zane to the point there that was a whole ass raid about Zane shitting up Landosol and Sheffy, his sister, opposing him.

Yori's Game Review

This happens before Akari and Yori got their body swapped, so it's in a different section.

Before Raphi started to swap people's bodies around, Yori was her first victim. Yori wished she could be more honest with her feelings, so that's what Raphi gave her. At first, it seemed only her outfit changed, but it starts kicking in when Yori went to her first offline meeting.

Nanaka asks Yori about how she feels about Abyss Hunters 2. Nanaka herself likes the new character design, and Rin remembers having trouble clearing Abyss Hunters 1. Raphi's magic kicks in and Yori suddenly becomes brutally critical. Actually, she's always been brutally critical when it comes to games, Raphi's magic just made her capable of expressing it.

She goes on about how while the new designs are great, the game's lower difficulty is a disappointment. She thinks that it's great that they're trying to cater to newer players, but this comes at a price of shafting the hardcore fans.

game review with yori

This reminds me of Dragalia...Lost. Dragalia Lost was considered to be "gacha dark souls" because of its High Dragon fights. It was fine until they decided to add Expert and Master difficulties AND locked progression behind them. The devs noticed people were quitting, so they decided to tone down the difficulty when the second series of endgame fights released, The Agito Uprising. However, now the hardcore players were quitting because of how easy the new fights were, so to combat that, they added a new Legend difficulty. It's balls to the walls hard, but only rewarded weapon skins, so no progression was locked behind them.

Personally, I really liked this solution, but at that point the game was on a timer already. I just didn't see it...

Well, there you have it. The constant ping-ponging of how Dragalia handled its endgame fights really made Yori's review hit hard for me. I could go into more details, I know how Volk was well received at first (I thought so too) only for Kai Yan to shit everything up, and how the Dominion fights shit things up even further by introducing Nihility, but that would end up longer than my review of the Happy Change Angels event. Guess I can't just help going off-topic when there's little to talk about.

Difficulty

Not much to say here, perfect comprehension. 100% (834/834).

Translation Differences

I mostly want to show this off.

happy change angels

This is TW server's version of the event PV. Notice how they didn't bother translating or even transliterating the event title using Chinese characters. I don't know Chinese, so I can't comment on how they should've handled it. If EN had lived long enough to reach this event, I bet they'd just steal the event logo from TW. I'd say fuck Crunchyroll for being lazy, but it's not like there'd be anything to translate.

That is all for now. See ya on the next one.

ultimate gamer

Honestly, a girl with Yori's body and Akari's personality is fire. Not to throw a shade on Yori's personality, but she reminds me of myself a bit too much....
