The Story Itself

The Plot

Monsters want to scare but cannot, because they're cute and not scary. Why do the monsters want to scare? Because they need to eat the screams. So, monsters train with the girls to become scarers. But here come's the twist: the head honcho of the monsters isn't satisfied with just screams, he also wants to eat the life force of people. So, small monsters take down big monster!

It's really that simple.

The Interactions

Very one-note and surface-level, none of them really advanced the characters' development. Still cute nonetheless, though. This event is pretty early in JP, so they're probably still figuring out what to do with events. As revealed in an interview, they only really changed things up after the 5th anniversary event. I wonder if the massive backlash caused the change...

Anyway, before I go off-topic, I'm going to mention some interactions that I found particularly cute.

The reason Tsumugi agreed to help the monsters

Episode 1. Being disappointed in the haunted mansion, Tsumugi gives the monsters some feedback. Hearing the feedback, the monsters begs Tsumugi to train them. Tsumugi agrees, with some conditions. The monsters agree, whatever that is, but Tsumugi reveals that the conditions are not for them...

no, not you guys

Smash cut to Rei wearing her Halloween costume.

Tsumugi is REALLY horny for Rei in this event in general. So uh, is she a lesbian, or...? Thankfully, this is answered FIVE YEARS LATER in the Kanon's Glorious Revenge event. Turns out, she likes both Rei AND KSKN. So, she's bi? Well, the "sensible" explanation would that she simply respects Rei and just expresses said respect in an excessive way, but I'm sure that's not the conclusion you guys came to at first. Damn yuriturds Well, myself, I'm not too bothered with yuri as long as I get to impregnate them both in the end. Er, moving on, before I get sidetracked...

Matsuri and Victor

Victor is the wolf monster. Honestly, I'm pretty surprised to see that they have unique portraits that haven't been recycled. You'd think they'd have reappeared in a future event by this point, they promised to see the group at the end of the story, after all. They didn't appear in the Grand Dream Park event nor the Elysium raid, those two probably would've been the perfect times to bring them back.

Now that we have Gio Niflhel, I wonder if it's the "spirit world" that keeps getting mentioned in Halloween events? Next month would've been the perfect time to bring back Halloween as an event theme and maybe bring them back, but they decided to cover Satsuki's death instead. Not complaining here, I'm just saying that having a Halloween event in Gio Niflhel would be the perfect way to wrap up this spirit world subplot, considering we're moving on to the real world very soon.

Er...got sidetracked there. What's up with me today? I guess that's just what happens when the event gives very little things to talk about. Anyway, back to Matsuri and Victor.

Episode 4. The haunted mansion opens up for the first time after its renewal. A pair of guests come and Matsuri and Victor are the first to greet them. At first, Matsuri approaches them playfully, Victor follows her. The guests find them adorable, but Matsuri suddenly remarks that they're hungry. Victor agrees, commenting that they look delicious. As the beastfolk woman starts to get scared...

ROAR

The woman runs away, Victor eats her scream.

I just found it cute that the girl dressed up as an animal and the animal monster work in perfect sync. Yeah, as I said, the interactions here are pretty surface-level, still cute, though.

Carmina's Fame

Apparently, Carmina's stardom spans beyond the living world, as Mash has been in a Carmina live concert before.

even ghosts are fans

The monsters acknowledge this and was worried if they'd be imposing too much. Tsumugi agrees anyway since Carmina doesn't have much planned for Halloween.

Character Defining Moments

All three have them, although in my opinion only Tsumugi's stands out. Tsumugi's is another set up for the future, Rei's is a callback to the past, and Matsuri's is simply reminding the audience one of her character traits.

Tsumugi

Episode 2, Rei wonders who they'll help the monsters, as she has no idea about scaring.

lol no idea

Tsumugi goes "same". Matsuri goes "what!?", and then Tsumugi explains she was merely giving the monsters feedback based on her perspective as an idol. Which is why the first thing she did was fix their presentation.

"Carmina members doing things through the lens of an idol" is something that's done in pretty much all Carmina events. In the first Alces event, Nozomi managed to make the antidote for the poisoned man because she stopped thinking of herself when doing alchemy, and started doing thinking of others, the same reason why she became an idol. In the Andante with You event, Chika managed to finally get through Ranpha thanks to KSKN advice of seeing things through the perspective of an idol, and not a Song Summoner.

And one more thing specific to Tsumugi, her tendency to use tough love to teach others is set up here, she uses this again in the Just A Moment event where she freaked out at Nozomi for working too hard, and in the Kanon's Glorious Revenge where she yelled at Kanon to snap her out of her mindbreak.

Honestly, Carmina is such a well-rounded guild. Reading all their events really made me warm up to them. Not in the "I want to have children with them" way, but the "I understand now why people would be fans of them" way.

Rei

Apparently, Rei used to be a yandere back in OG. Or at least, much more aggressive. Can't confirm yet because I don't plan to start reading OG anytime soon.

Episode 3. Rei, Tsumugi, Fuse (the mummy monster) and Mash (the ghost monster) are doing their job that was given by Ghostfather, to scare a bunch of hoodlums in the graveyard. When Rei's turn comes up, she proposes to simply intimidate them with her weapon, Tsumugi objects, telling her to play the role of a vengeful spirit who was left to die by her lover.

Rei is troubled at first, as she never had any lovers, but KSKN comes to mind when thinking about lovers. She starts thinking about how Tsumugi made her Halloween outfit. She starts thinking about how Tsumugi had to gather materials for it first, which means she probably asked KSKN for help. Which also means...they went out together without her!

wonder if she'd be down for a threesome

As her anger starts to bubble, she gets interrupted with KSKN who was already there, and says that she can come with next time.

Phooew. Who knew the cool and stoic Rei-sama can also get jealous? I expected her to become jealous, but I didn't expect to go angry like that. That's why I think this is a callback to OG. I expected a "aw man guess the early bird gets worm" reaction.

Matsuri

Hey, audience, I hope you haven't forgotten that Matsuri is a beastfolk pretending to be human so she'd be accepted into Nightmare.

sexy human would impregnate

That's pretty much the purpose of this line. Pretty much everyone knows including those in Nightmare at this point. The group decides to play along in the spirit of Halloween. I mentioned this just so that I have three things to mention just like last section, lol.

Difficulty

Nothing much to say, another easy event. 100% (1264/1264) comprehension.

Translation Differences

The word echo is gone from the EN title. If the JP title were to be translated accurately, it'd be "Echo! Scream! Halloween Ghost Festival".

And that is it for the blogpost. See ya on the next one.

lick lick

Look at her flat chest, goddamn that's hot.
