Monika's Identity Crisis
Pretty much every single episode covers this crisis of hers.
In the prologue, the story opens up with her dream riding an airship, leading an armada. Of course, she wakes up and feels annoyed that it was a dream. Not wanting to let that stop her, she decides to patrol town. She suddenly hears Kuuka screaming for monsters, runs to the monsters and starts jobbing because she's up against an Antibeast, which can only be defeated...with the power of love and hope!
But that's not what Monika thought. When Mora starts contacting her and tells her that she needs new power to defeat it, Monika starts speculating. Do I need an airship so I can shoot it down with a cannonball? Nope. Do I need a large armada of soldiers to take it down? Uh, no? Where is this coming from, you need the power of love and hope! Monika, not wanting to job, takes the power and transforms into Lovely Monika.

In episode 1, Monika immediately asks Mora if he can also give her an armada of soldiers, seeing that he can grant her mahou shoujo powers. Mora went all, what the fuck are you talking about?
The rest of the episode is spent beating up monsters and introducing her to Shiori and Kasumi. After that, after Monika is asked if she wants to really join the party. She's conflicted, but eventually relents. They both fight to protect people, anyway.

In episode 2, more monster hunting. Monika is leading the charge and is doing a really good job at it. Mora is impressed. After the battle is done, Shiori and Kasumi both praise her while also teasing her a little bit since she's on the smaller side. Mora decided to get cocky and praised himself because he has an eye for potential magical girls. But...Monika didn't want to become a magical girl.

In episode 3, the mahou shoujos visit Sarendia Orphanage to play with the kids there. Monika, while suspicious at first, eventually becomes convinced after learning that fighting is not the only thing magical girls do.
Saren calls out on the kids to do an activity, drawing your dreams on a piece of paper! They all want to become magical girls, so Saren told them to draw what jobs they want to have. Still magical girls.
One of the kids comes over to Monika and asks her what her dream is. Monika proudly answers that she wants to be an admiral. The kid being a kid, doesn't have the word admiral in her vocabulary. Monika tries to explain, but the kid still doesn't understand, what's wrong with being just a magical girl? Monika is about to explain that she's only doing this temporarily, before being interrupted by monsters.

In episode 4, Monika is having another dream where she's an admiral. She's fighting monsters, but her powers don't work for some reason when she calls for it. Monika wakes up screaming, surprising Kuuka.
Monika leaves the guildhouse to pick up Mora for another day of patrol. Monika's crisis has reached its peak, she asks Mora if she really is meant to be a magical girl. Of course, Mora says so, that Monika is brave and has love and hope coursing through her veins and all that. Monika explains that she saw a dream where she failed being a magical girl, and thinks that's because being a magical girl isn't what she really wants. Because, what she really wants to be is...more monsters!?

Monika transforms and tries to fight them off...but her magical girl powers don't come out. Despite being told to retreat by Mora, Monika keeps going. Of course, the rest of the magical girls come and save Monika's ass. Monika is told to take a break by the other magical girls. It took some convincing, Monika only agreed after seeing Mora crying his eyes out.
In episode 5, Monika really is taking a break. She goes out with KSKN to eat some sweets around town. Monika is worried about the magical girls, but she goes, nah, they'll be fine.
Meanwhile, the rest of the magical girls are patrolling town. They notice the townsfolk acting strange...it's as if they have no aspirations for the future. Kasumi asks Mora what the Antibeast's goal is, and Mora answers that its goal is to steal people's love and dreams. Kasumi puts the two together, she remembers the time the monsters attacked Sarendia Orphanage. The monsters went for the papers that were used by the kids to draw their dreams on. With this, Kasumi figures out that Antibeast must have eaten the people's dreams, and the reason Monika is weaker is because she took a hit during the skirmish in Sarendia, meaning she got her dreams stolen there.
The mahou shoujos start snapping people out of their doomposting, however, all the doom becomes mist that gathers up and eventually becomes Antibeast de M. The magical girls start jobbing and they all start reverting back to their normal selves. Kuuka gets caught in the crossfire and becomes Kuuka Noire. Eventually, Monika gets to the fight scene because a kid was screaming for help. She's hesitant at first, but after some nudging from KSKN and a cool speech, she transforms into....

Magical Admiral Lovely Monika! Now she can be magical AND be an admiral at once!
You've been only talking about Monika, what about the others?
With the exception of Kasumi who figured out what's the deal with Monika, the rest didn't do anything too special, honestly. I'd be fine if it's only Kasumi and Shiori that this happened to, considering they already had their own mahou shoujo event.
Tomo is here because she's a massive mahou shoujo fan, and I bet the thought process of the writers was "let's make the mahou shoujo fan an actual mahou shoujo!", Unfortunately, I think that's as far as they thought.
There was one moment where they were building up to Tomo doing something. For some reason, Tomo was slightly more resilient to the fog's influence. She was the last one standing, until Kuuka came in and knocked the mahou out of her.

Other than this, she just stuck around to help in the fights like Shiori did. Would've been great if they swapped Kasumi's and Tomo's relevance here...is what I'd say. But that'd just make Kasumi look dumb. They needed to involve Tomo more in general.
Overall Thoughts
This is an old event, old events are visibly worse. At least you guys aren't reading events in reverse order in order to catch up, so your thought would probably be "new events are visibly better" instead.
Still, the fact that there's a character arc here at all already puts it above the rest of older events, that's how low the standards are. And I must say, said character arc was pretty enjoyable.
My opinion on this is somewhat affected by the And I Will event since I read that event right before this one. There, you get to see an alternate Monika in Shinatsu's world, where she seemingly have embraced her childish side. This is in stark contrast to our own Monika where she hates being treated like a child. Having seen that alternate Monika, I feel a little bit...sad? Here, we saw how hard Monika clung to her dreams of becoming an admiral, meanwhile the alternate Monika is just playing spinning tops with some kids. Maybe there's more to it, but how am I supposed to know? They didn't show it.
And this is how the Foil trope achieves its goal. Monika's hatred of being seen as a child because she wants to be something more is VERY obvious now because we've seen a Monika that acts like a child. With this, hopefully, the audience takes another look at the original Monika and thinks to themselves "it's great that our Monika didn't turn out like that!".
Also, this is completely unrelated to the story, but I kinda dislike the designs of the magical girls except for Monika. I think changing both their hairstyles AND hair color takes away too much of their identity. Hair is the second most expressive part of the body (only second to eyes) when it comes to anime character design...or character design in general, really. I suppose their hair being wildly different is so that they can stay incognito, while this explanation makes sense, still kinda iffy for me. Examples of well-executed hairstyle changes imo are ALabyrista and GGTsumugi. Well, you might say something about Tsumugi's outfit, but that's besides the point.
Yeah, nothing to say here. You guys never had any problems following the plot of a Saturday morning cartoon, right? Then you'd find this event easy.
100% comprehension (937/937).

This Monika is an upgrade btw.
