The Story Itself

• Well...Kazumasa is a fun character.
• That's pretty much the only positive thing I can say about this event.
• Muimi and Neneka are barely there. This is just another Gourmet Guild event.

• I mostly rushed through this event because this was such a boring read. I didn't bother counting lines that I understood/missed.

Translation Differences

• Slightly different. JP doesn't mention the sea at all, it instead mentions the young maidens going fishing.

The Story Itself

Kazumasa

I like his "incompetence" in fishing. He gets seasick despite being a fisherman. All his fishing gadgets are busted in one way or another. He goes "hyaahn" when pulling the fishing hook and claims that it's a fishing technique. I think the "point" the game is trying to deliver here is that he's an actual, competent fisherman, but fucks around so the the young maidens around him don't get bored. Not explicitly stated, though. But you see, fishing is generally seen as a boring activity as far as Priconne is concerned.

That, and Kazumasa would probably be dead already if he were actually incompetent. Since according to his backstory, the seas of Oma really is dangerous. Oh, his backstory. It's pretty simple, his master went to challenge Great Thunnus and never came back which gives him the motivation to do...Kazumasa things.

Oh, and one more thing before I start shitting on this story. Kazumasa's "incompetence" reminds me of the Youtube ElectroBOOM. He's an electrician that makes gadgets (???) and intentionally electrocutes himself for the lols. Almost got himself killed for real in the Jacob's ladder episode.

Yeah...you know I'm struggling to say anything about the event when I start bringing up a Youtuber that's completely unrelated to Priconne...

Muimi & Neneka

They do nothing. I can count their contributions in this event with one hand.

• they talk to bishokuden in the restaurant (stretching it here)
• they help bishokuden go back to the docks when surrounded by fishes
• they help bishokuden by holding down the fort in oma when they go challenge great thunnus

That's fucking it. And all of them are combat-related, it doesn't have anything to do with their actual characters! You could replace the two with anyone, and the story would still function just fine. You could even cut them out entirely and just replace them some random fishermen from Oma and the story would also still function just fine. The last point is even more egregious, the climax of the story comes, and they decide to fuck off!?

Eight episodes. And they only appear in 3 of them. Technically 4 because they also appear in epilogue. But they only appear there so their kimono-wearing sprites would appear SOMEWHERE in the event.

Someone brought up that this event was advertised as a Gourmet Guild event.

I guess that's true, no foul play here. But that doesn't stop this event from being shit.

Sigh...the only "cope" I can think of is that this is a low budget event that's shat out so there would be an event at all in January. Considering the following event after this is Of Cherished Bonds and Distant Hearts and that event was both good and lenghty, I can see why. Both events feature Gourmet Guild, they probably recorded both events in the same session.

Difficulty

I struggled a bit during the Kazumasa loredump, but other than that, nothing was too hard. It's hard to read because the story is shit.

Didn't bother counting how many lines I missed/understood, but I still counted the total lines this event has so you guys can see the length.

Translation Differences

一投 in the JP title means literally means one/first pitch. Pitch as in throwing a ball. I guess it's referencing to Gourmet's Guild first time fishing.

You could translate it as "New Year's Gourmet Princess! The Young Maidens' First Times" for the virginity joke, lol.

Well, that's all for this blogpost. Not much of a blogpost, fitting for a not much of a story.

Looks to me they wrote the Landosol Guild Race event and promptly forgot how to write an NY event...
