NYHags Event

湯けむり忘年奇譚 初日の出に盃を

Just finished the NYHags event, just in time. This is starting to get longer and longer...

It was exactly what you'd expect from an onsen story, as always, the interactions were enjoyable. My favorite moment was during the sin confession part. I liked seeing Inori get pissed at her sins not being forgiven despite being mundane compared Io's urge of taking over Landosol, and Shiori dropping a rather serious confession after the previous shitpost-y confessions. Even the characters here were surprised. The returning villains were surprising as well. I had a rough idea who the Casino King and the Anti-Beast were, but this is my first exposure to the Inspector. You probably know why. I also liked the detail of their name plates changing, going from Suspicious Man (and Monster), to their actual names, to Small Fry Villain (number) when Homare called them that, to finally returning to their actual names.

I also want to apply the metric of judgement that I used on the Dears event here, how replacable are the characters in the story? To answer this, none of them, really. Immediately, the story mentioned Homare became the temporary proprietress because of her intimidation. Misato played a role in making everyone shitfaced drunk on the latter half of the story, even Homare admitted that she wouldn't be able to resist if it's Misato that's offering. And Mitsuki's role was to snap Misato out of it. I'd also like to give a special mention to Yukari, who else would be able to find a bottle of sake just from the smell? Even Shiori, a beastfolk, a race that's supposedly has a better sense of smell, didn't sense anything. I honestly think she played a bigger role here compared to her own summer event. I guess you could argue that she's the only one that wouldn't die from being sucked up being the octopus thing, as she said herself, she's used to drinking "liquids that isn't water"

The event started out a bit tough because of the loredump of the founding of the inn at the beginning, but its difficulty dropped FAST after the egg god appeared. I estimate I usually blank out on 30% of the dialouge boxes, but this time, I don't even need a percentage estimation. From episode 5 to the epilogue, there are 431 dialouge boxes, and I only missed 9 of them. You can still count it with your hands! Of course, this could be attributed to the dialouges being all TAMA TAMA TAMA and everyone being shitfaced drunk, but still. This is my highest story comprehension so far. I skipped reading the onsen transcript books, though. I read the first one and went, "where's my character interactions" because it was just a description of the effects of the water. I guess this is why I struggled with the bestiary of the Dears event, but didn't mind the Altar Maidens' dairy in the Criminal Rookies. I only managed to read Kokkoro's part on the former because it was, well, Kokkoro, and the latter still counts as character interactions to me because it was them recounting their experience helping various guilds. I still read the bathing scene themselves, and they were nice.

Next up, of course, is I Wish. It feels a bit intimidating because I haven't read arc 2 past Ranpha's introduction (again, you know why), but I'm somewhat okay with missing plot points. I'm usually here for the character interactions, after all. My only concern regarding that is Eris, characters like her usually dump exposiiton after exposition, making it hard to understand. The Twinkle Wish members themselves should be easy to understand, I've seen snippets of Yui's speech style from the JP story screenshot spammer and Hiyori has less than 90 iq, childish and dumb characters are usually easier to understand. I guess Rei is a bit of a concern, but of all the guild members, she's the one I relate to the most (haha...), so hopefully, it won't be too hard.
